So now you know who we are, and that this is you, and you’re ready to go? Great!
We are available on a very limited basis for consulting. We love to help, but with businesses of our own to run, we run out of hours before we run out of things we want to do. This is not to discourage you, just to let you know: it’s first-come, first-scheduled, and please don’t be offended if we’re booked up.
How Am I Billed?
You can hire us to help you work on whatever is most pressing for you — including figuring out what’s most pressing.
We bill hourly for time we spend interacting directly with you, or working on something specifically for you that we wouldn’t otherwise have done. We’re meticulous about record-keeping, and we’re not going to overbill you or guess at our time.
There’s never any obligation to continue to work with us. If we’re not constantly giving you value in excess of what you pay us, we should stop working together. It doesn’t do either of us any good to pretend it’s working when it’s not. It’s possible that we may someday tell you that you need to stop working with us, because we’re not helping you.
We promise, you won’t offend us at all if you stop working with us for any reason. The only catch is, you have to tell us. We expect to be paid for time we’ve spent on your behalf in good faith, up until you tell us to stop. That’s the only obligation you ever entail.
What If I’m Not Sure I Can Afford It?
We understand! It’s hard sometimes to spend money you don’t feel like you have in order to improve something for the future. We get it. So a few things to remember:
There’s a lot of free value on this site. We try to address real issues and offer concrete help to people both in blog posts and in comment threads on the site (not to mention participation at other blogs relevant to small businesses). We’re not going to do full-scale personal consulting via blog comments, but we will try to help get you pointed in the right direction and offer suggestions as time allows. We’re really trying to offer value to everyone who comes here. Hiring us is for people who really want some direct, personal attention to their specific challenges.
We will set limits for you. We are not here to bleed you dry. If ongoing costs are a major concern for you, we can work carefully with you in our initial meeting to set limits on how much we will ever bill on your behalf, so you can be confident you don’t exceed a budget. One of the main things we will do in a situation like this is try to help you find the biggest, quickest bang for your buck, to try to get you some return on your investment as soon as possible. After all, if we can help you pay for using us some more out of cash flow, everybody wins!
We take PayPal. PayPal takes credit cards. While we don’t advocate going into a lot of debt, and credit cards are an expensive way to “pay for” things you don’t have the cash for, still we use them in our own businesses to smooth cash flow, and we know they’re invaluable tools. And we take’em, to make it easier for you.
How Do I Pay You?
If you’re ready to get started, you can hit the button below to pay $150 for our initial meeting (usually by telephone or Skype). We’ll spend at least an hour (almost certainly more) getting acquainted and finding out more about what you want to accomplish. Once we have some goals setup, we’ll proceed on an hourly basis. We charge $150/hour for non-travel consultations. As we say above, we track time conservatively, and we always err in your favor. There is never an obligation to continue with us; if we ever stop providing value to you, we should stop working together right away.
After we receive payment, we’ll contact you via your PayPal email address (or via phone or email if you contact us and let us know a better way to reach you) and setup our initial meeting.
